In "Bittersweet," Michelle Krasowski reflects on a personal chapter of growth, emotional release, and the courage to embrace change. Created with oil paint and gold leaf on stretched canvas, the piece shows a dove escaping an open birdcage, a universal symbol of peace, hope, and spiritual freedom.
Throughout much of her work, Krasowski has explored themes of superstition and fate, often perceiving herself as someone surrounded by bad luck. However, meeting a certain individual shifted that perspective. Through their connection, she saw herself differently, with more light, more hope, and a renewed openness to new beginnings. Their bond brought healing and growth to both sides, but ultimately, it was a relationship that was never meant to be permanent.
When the connection grew beyond its original meaning, Krasowski faced a painful decision: to let go, rather than stay trapped by circumstances that could no longer sustain true freedom. The gold leaf wreath surrounding the scene honors both the beauty of what was shared and the bravery it takes to move forward.
"Bittersweet" is a tribute to how some encounters, even those not meant to last, can change us in powerful ways, teaching us to free ourselves, trust new beginnings, and honor the peace that comes with letting go.
